How to use The Little Big Plan
This tool is designed to help you do three things:
- Focus
Identify the critical goal for you right now; - Assess
Check that you are communicating the right things to the right people in order to reach that goal; - Act
Take steps that are achievable with the time and resources you have.
How it works
- Questions
You are asked four or five multiple-choice questions. Each question can have only one answer: the one that is most important to you right now. - Summary
Your answers are presented back to you, so you can see where there might be disparities. - Suggestions
Below the summary will be pointers for what you could do next. As the tool develops, these will become much more tailored to the specific answers you give. (I would love to hear what you think would be useful here, and any other feedback.)
Tips
- Discuss with colleagues
You will get much more out of this tool if you are confident that key colleagues would agree with your answers. If you're not sure, take some time to discuss it with them so you all have a solid, agreed starting point. - Don't think too big
Focus on what is achievable right now rather than on ambitious long-term aims (though keep them in sight, of course). You can use this tool as often as you feel you need to, whether that's every now and then or every week. - Don't worry about doing it wrong!
Don't let marketing 'experts' make you feel inadequate, bamboozle you with jargon or overwhelm you with advice. If you focus on what you need to do in order to achieve what you need to achieve, then you're doing it right!
